Newsletters (email marketing) is great way of reaching potential customers. Newsletters work great for bloggers sending blog updates to their readers. It is however much more powerful when used in eCommerce stores. In my opinion it is a must do for any online store.

Email marketing by sending emails to thousands of email addresses you bought from somewhere or in other words spamming, is not the right way. It is a sure way to put your site’s domain name on email filters, conversions are extremely low, and is just flat out wrong.

The correct way to go about email marketing is putting newsletter sign up boxes across your site and encourage visitors to sign up for it. This is extremely powerful. You just got the email address of a visitor that is already interested in your product. Your job is much easier as you only have to send him good promotions. He/she already likes your site and trusts you with his/her email.

Do this sooner than later. Every day that you don’t put newsletter sign up boxes on your online store you are losing money. You might think your site is small and you will put newsletter boxes when it becomes larger but not now. Wrong! Every single sign up is a customer that WANTS you to sell them products. You would have to spend a lot of marketing dollars to earn such potential customers else where.

For my online stores (and this blog), I use Aweber. I love their ease of use, tracking methods, and tools that they offer. Their pricing starts at $19/month for fewer than 500 subscribers. In my experience having 20 subscribers pays for the monthly fee itself. This of course depends on your store’s average sale and profit amount per order. My newsletter marketing through Aweber converts at about 2.5% which is absolutely great conversion rate.
