One of the most important parts of your website/online business is having a good and reliable web hosting. There are many advantages to having a reliable hosting (ex. not frustrating your visitors). But one advantage that might not come to your mind right away is the frustration of seeing your website(s) down, calling the hosting company, staying behind the line for half an hour, and getting a worthless answer at the end – and having to do the whole process every other day.
You might have read my previous hosting reviews: Midphaes Hosting Review, and IPower Web Hosting Review. They were both terrible. IPower Web was actually worse. I have completely moved all my sites and hostings to HostGator now.
I run my websites on two HostGator Baby Hosting accounts. They are shared hostings but I have not had any problems with them. I have been with HostGator for almost a year and I have had to call them less than 10 times the whole year. This was great change for me as it took a big load of my back and I have been able to concentrate on more important things.
HostGator prices are not the cheapest price online (I pay $9.99 a month for my baby accounts with no contract). but they are definitely not expensive. In my opinion they are worth every penny of the $9.99. Most likely I will move to a dedicated server on HostGator soon. Their dedicated hostings are more expensive than average dedicated hosting prices but I have heard good things about them.
Pay close attention to the following note: Most hostings will allow a free domain name sign up with your hosting account. Don’t fall for that. They will keep your domain information to themselves (the registrar and so forth) and will make it very hard for you to try and move that domain to another domain registrar and therefore you will have no choice but to stay with that hosting. Even if you want to take advantage of the free domain offer, move the domain to GoDaddy or another established domain registrar as soon as you sign up for the hosting account.
HostGator is the best hosting out there. Don’t fall for a hosting that is $2/month cheaper or so. The headaches are not worth it. I also would like to hear your reviews of your current and previous hostings.
