In the previous post, entrepreneur tips 1, I mentioned how compartmentalizing is very important in managing life as an entrepreneur. While work and life can’t always be separated you can take some steps to help you manage your life better and not let your work get in the way your social life.
First here is a short definition of what compartmentalization is. Following are some suggestions to help you compartmentalize your life from work.
1- Move To An Office
Moving your business to an office might the biggest step you can take in expanding your business and better managing your life and work. I will write another post soon on how much this can actually benefit you.
2- Practice Compartmentalization In Your Daily Life
Practice doing one or few things at a time. Performing one task at a time allows you to get that one task done faster and better. Practice this in your daily routine and it will transfer over to your work life as well.
For example, If you are eating, just eat. If you are talking on the phone with a client, don’t check your emails at the same time. If you are brushing your teeth, don’t check your blog feed at the same time. While you might think that this is increasing efficiency and multi-tasking, it is not. You will find yourself much more productive if you get fewer tasks done better.
3- Find Entertainment Outside Work
Take some time off work throughout the week. Go watch a movie, have lunch or dinner with friends and family. I personally go to a coffee shop every other day after school/work to have tea with some of my friends for about an hour. It’s a good break from all that happens at work in the morning and a transition into “home mood”.
