I’m taking a graduate course called Entrepreneurship Seminar. We have weekly speeches from successful entrepreneurs. Last week Eric Davis, CEO of Kylin Therapeutics gave a speech with the title “Confessions of an Entrepreneur“. It was close to a 2 hour speech but I did not even realize how fast time passed.

Eric had a science (I don’t remember exactly what) major as undergraduate and had persuaded a law degree after that. He had worked for a while at different job positions and finally decided to take the entrepreneur path. He started his first business during the dot-com era and has created and sold couple successful companies since.

There were a lot of good points in his speech so I will try to share them with you in a “Entrepreneurship Tips” series. Feel free to comment and suggest other sources as well.

1. Compartmentalize

Being able to compartmentalize is the key to managing life as entrepreneur which would allow one to separate his personal life from work life. This allows to manage working as an entrepreneur and having a family and friends without them interfereing with each other. We all know that we can easily get caught up in work and not know how long we have spend on business.

Farhamnd, CEO and president of Global HealthNet, in an interview with Entrepreneur magazine, also considers compartmentalization the way she has been able to manage her marriage with her husband (Entrepreneur 2003).
