As we get closer to the election time it looks more possible for senator McCain (while still trailing Senator Obama) to become the next president of United States. Seriously? When will Americans learn? Was 8 years of destructive policies not enough? I strongly believe and hope that senator Obama will win the election, however to see that McCain has even a chance is disturbing.
I understand that some of the Republicans policies (mainly toward small businesses) are good for the country and better than Democrats. War might have been the answer to United States’ ill economy and to reassure America’s dominance in the world, and we do need a president with guts, but McCain’s policies are no different than Bush’s. He doesn’t understand modern international politics and the same old people (that are running the country now) will be running it if he comes to power.
If senator Obama become the next president, lobbyists and large corporations will still be running Washington but it would be a different group of them and that itself is a change. We need someone younger who understands the modern world better, and is not afraid of (trying to) change the old conservative ways of getting (the same) business done.
Similar to how Michael Phelps motivated a new generation of swimmers in America, Obama can motivate a new generation of politicians who rise from ordinary educated people rather than the current senator’s sons and nephews. This alone is a huge achievement.
Senator Obama might not have as much experience in international politics but if that is the main measure of qualifying for the job how did George W. Bush get elected twice?
Above all senator Obama can also restore the lost respect of United States in the world – nto among the politicans but among the ordinary people.
