Like many other people I stayed out all night on the thanksgiving night in line to get the best deals at our local Circuit City. I ended up buying a Compaq Presario C700 laptop for $300 (after all the rebates and discounts - normaly $650 to $700).
The laptop has Vista on it as the operating system. It was my first time using Vista. It wasn’t as bad until I realized that Vista uses more than twice the memory that Windows XP uses. My laptop had 1GB memory and was using close to 700MB of it with just Windows Vista coming up. So I added another 1GB of memory to it myself and took it to 2GB. It is faster and better now. As for the vista, I still haven’t had any problems with it, but we’ll see if all my softwares run fine on it.
So far I have noticed one bad thing about the laptop. It gets extremely hot - the bottom part of it does -. I used to have a laptop (SONY) that overheated all the time and turned off by itself because of the heat. But that started happening after I had owned the laptop for over a year and used it 24/7. I haven’t owned this laptop for even a week yet.
One other missing feature is that it doesn’t have the middle button that IBM and DELL do (that is used as mouse instead of the mouse pad on the laptop).
The fan on the laptop is very loud too. Every 5 minutes or so, the fan works very fast and makes a fairly loud noise which is annoying.
I’ll add more reviews to this page as I use the laptop.
There is wide range and variety of computer notebooks available but before deciding its better to consider reading reviews about particular product and company. One of reliable machinery is acer laptop. But on the other hand compaq notebook is a part of Presario family of computers known for quality and rich experience.

Amazing how the exact same model can result in two completely different user experiences. I also bought a Compaq Presario C700 and I have not had any of the problems you mention: I keep the laptop on 24/7 and it never overheats, the fan is very silent (so far) and it DOES have the middle button for mouse control. It’s not perfect though: the screen saver has a mind of its own, I set it to kick in after one minute, but sometimes the screen stays on for hours on end, sometimes the screensaver starts after a minute of inactivity, only to quit at some random time afterwards. I run a windows upgrade and it caused blue screens on startup, I had to reboot with safe mode and disable the display driver that Microsoft Update installed. Finally, the keyboard can’t keep up with my typing, sometimes the characters show up in the screen about 3-4 seconds after I type them. I type moderately fast, but not THAT fast. Maybe I need to upgrade some drivers.

I bought C- 700 yesterday and seems to be fairly good. It is cheap and i loaded Widows Xp.
December 26th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
I just got the C700 yesterday for Christmas and it seems to be fine with me. The fan makes some noise, yes, but it really isn’t so loud and it doesn’t bother me. I guess that’s just variances in preference. Same with the mouse button in the middle. I never used that anyway. Mine also doesn’t overheat. Compared to some other laptops i’ve had and used, it remains fairly cool. The power pack on the power cord does get pretty hot, but I just make sure that i don’t have it somewhere that will retain the heat. Otherwise, it’s been awesome for me, aside from the usual Vista conundrums.

I just got one for Christmas yesterday and was looking up reviews. My fan makes noise every so often after a few hours of use on a table or desk.
The bottom does get hot.
Memory I have had no issue wit… yet.
Vista is fine.
I don’t have the middle button either.

January 6th, 2008 at 11:01 am
i got it a week ago and its good just gets alittle hot and it does make a little noise
January 7th, 2008 at 12:47 am
I’ve had one since Thanks Giving and have the same problems as the original post mentions… bottom gets fairly hot and the fan seems a bit loud, but that doesnt really bother me. however, my cd/dvd rom drive does make a lot of sounds… almost like its already about to go out (like a scraping sound). does anyone else have these sounds with their drive?
I’d like to know how the originator of this post is coming along with his laptop. Has the heat from the laptop created a problem for you?
January 8th, 2008 at 3:34 am
I’ve had a Compaq Presario C700 for a month and a half now… I seem to have the same problems… My computer heats up on the bottom… the AC\DC adaptor heats up more… I haven’t had any pixel problems… (yet). My CD/DVD ROM works great… sometimes it bogs down when I am trying to download files or music… I don’t miss the button in the middle, I’ve always hated that thing. I don’t the fan is working anymore, though. I used to be able to feel it when I first bought it but I don’t anymore.
Well, that’s my brief review.
January 8th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
I got the C700 for Christmas and it works great for me. I especially like Vista Home Premium and all the features it comes with. I haven’t had any problem with the keyboard or the heat, and I don’t have a middle mouse button. It’s also nice not having to buy a network card since it’s built in already.
For the people having trouble with stuck pixels and dead pixels, try http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php .

Purchased a C700 yesterday at Best Buy (499). Seems to working fine even after adding 1g of memory. I had to replace one of the 512 that it came with. The touchpad is uncertain and I will leave it on for the next few days as I normally do with new laptops. So far, no problems. Seriously though, it’s an entry level P4 laptop. If your expectations are too high, spend a little more and get the higher models.
January 11th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
I also have a dead pixel on mine after i got it for christmas
January 12th, 2008 at 7:12 am
I have the HP G7015 which is the same laptop…same specs and same look only different logo…HP/Compaq
After a few days of buying it, i noticed whenever i typed, it seemed to type somewhere else. But then i noticed that this was because my hand kept on touch the mouse. Luckily this laptop has mouse control ie. you can disable the mouse with a click of a button.
Great laptop with awesome specs and good build quality
9/10
Overall its a great laptop.
January 13th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
thanks for all the reviews. im about to get one here in the philippines. its cheap though, here in the philippines c700 is almso 500 dollars..its already cheap here for a laptop. but after reading all the reviews. im backing out. hehehe. 1gb memory will not work for vista, u will have a very limited access..
peace.!

I’ve got a compaq c-700 for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. It get extremely hot underneath, and the fan is very loud. so is my dvd/cd drive. No problems with vista though.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
I’ve has mine since November..the heat underneath worries me, it is very hot but it is also my first laptop. My dvd drive made the same sort of hopeless searching noise. The sensitivity of the touchpad drove me demented until I worked out how to reduce the sensitivity. My only genuine concern is the heat generated on the bottom and whether this is safe,
January 28th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Got it for christmas, very god laptop but it also worries me when it heats, which it does quite quickly. it is quite hot while i’m writing this. it also makes quite a loud noise when the fan gets going. but apart from that i love it
January 29th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Hi there,
I got mine for 3 months and I’m very happy with it. I have to agree with the comments about vista … it does slow it all down. Mine doesnt get overheated, the fan isnt laud, just some parts of my keyboard are getting bit shine which I find lovely.. Generaly I would recomend presario c700 compaq to all PC virgins.. It is a great deal for its price… E N J O Y :))))
January 30th, 2008 at 12:18 am
I bought the c700 for a backup to a tosheba satelite. It is a great starter laptop and i plan to up grade memory another gig for the vista issue. The dvd drive is noisy (scraping noise) and the curser is all over the screen even when the touchpad is not touched, I will try desensitising it later on. heating up has not been an issue, but if it becomes one I’ll try to remember not to block the vents on the bottom by using a laptop table. built in pc card is great, picks up hot spots with ease. for a cheap computer it’s ok.
February 5th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
i’ve had my laptop for about 2 mounths and i havent found a fault whith it (yet). its great for work and stuff. its cool
February 7th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I bought this from Best Buy for under $500 and aside from the periodic sticking of the return button and the slowness of the keys, it’s all good. I do have the center button, which took me time to figure out why my mouse had a mind of its own. hehe I did’nt think I would like Vista over XP but I kinda do. I plan on adding to the memory like I always do to my stuff, it’s just a good idea
February 15th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Has anyone had problems with their touchpad? I have had mine for 3 1/2 months and the touchpad is already screwed up. I’ve only been using the touchpad for about a month. The cursor jumps around when I am typing.
February 16th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
To get around the problem of the cursor moving around when typing go to your mouse properties. In the ‘Tapping’ tab select ‘Tab off when typing’. This should sort that out for you… annoyed me till I found this!
February 20th, 2008 at 1:45 am
I bought Compag Presario c 700, its so good performance. But I have troble with conexant.
February 21st, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Had my c700 for about a week now. The fan is at times noisy. Especially during startup. It makes some whirring noise. So does my cd/dvd drive too. I guess it’s normal for a cd/dvd drive to sound like that. My friend’s Dell Inspiron sounded the same when he loaded up a disc.
Heat? No problem there. The bottow gets fairly warm but no overheating.
Performance. Yea that’s the biggest issue for me. My cpu meter for RAM shot up to 90% during startup and I have to wait for a minute or two to let it drop. I had a very low subscore of 2.4 which came from windows aero part.
February 24th, 2008 at 8:55 am
I had mine as a gift from my sister. I am on my 5th straight day of using this laptop. My only negative comment is that you can barely hear the sounds coming out of its speakers. I am seriously considering shifting to XP though if and when I experience the slow down because of the ram.
February 27th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
I just got the Compaq Presario from Best Buy last weekend for the price of $450. I also bought 2 Gb of RAM on sale for $60 bringing the total to $510.
I also bought Windows Office Home and Student edition for Word and Excel. My uses are not heavy duty gaming or exotic desktop publishing or photoretouching (just minimal things I use Photoshop Elements for). As a result I found this machine to be well worth the money.
Previously I had a 13″ widescreen Sony Vaio with a Centrino chipset and 80 GB HD. It would run very hot and seemed to be bogged down but a lot of things. No matter how much I cleaned out the drive I always felt it was not running as fast as simple Dell desktop unit that used a lesser CPU with half the clockspeed.
This model is, IMHO, an utter bargain. You get an Intel Duo Core CPU with a clock speed of 1.6 Ghz, which is blazingly fast. Upping RAM to 2Gb is definitely in order as Vista is a RAM-hog. (I think XP in this regard is probably better but the thing came with Vista installed). In the system profile I opted for better software performance and minimal animations and the like and as a result the computer performs like greased lightning. Plus there is a 15″ wide screen display, altec lansing speakers (no great shakes but nice brand recognition nonetheless)
Unlike my previous Vaio, this computer is (A) MUCHO Cooler. In fact it just gets a little warm even with a lot of Java scripts running (that would often cause the previous Sony computer I owned to overheat so much that I had to use the task manager to force quit applications and reboot). The fan, also is quite quiet vs the Sony.
The 120 Gb hard drive is a bit misleading in that you really only have 100 Gb of storage. Plenty for most uses but the extra 20 GB has been partitioned for recovery apparently. No problem for me but may be a problem for those with huge storage demands. Again for my typical usage it’s fine. (I use Excel, Word, Photoshop Elements, FIrefox and a Java trading platform from E*Trade).
The DVD/CD drive is both read and write. And the unit has cable connections that allow you to connect to my Sony HDTV (oddly the Sony Vaio did not have ANY outputs for video devices and was quite limited, a concession made for having a computer with a more compact (13.5″ widescreen) footprint.
I noticed that the cursor jumped all over the place while typing but discovered the button that dis-engages the the trackpad which apparently is quite sensitive to the capacitance of nearby palms even if not in contact with the touchpad. Dis-engaging the trackpad improved performnce to normal.
Another anomaly at first that really wasn’t an anomally was the lack of a PCMCIA slot. With the Sony I had an Aircard from Verizon for connecting to the NET in areas outside of hotspots (which I really don’t like paying for) or wireless router zones in my home. (The built-in wireless connectivity by the way is superb!). While there was no PCMCIA slot the unit is bristling with USB ports (3 in fact!). I first went online to find an adapter for the card that had a USB connector and found one on EBAY for $139! How could Compaq (or more accurately HP) build a machine without a slot for one of these cards I thought. Is THAT what I had to spend an extra $100 to get? Seemed like a lot for a technology that wasn’t all that prevalent today as it may have been a few years back. I contacted HP (who are quite helpful on the phone I found) and inquired about whether they even sold one of these things as an option and the woman I spoke with said that while she did see that what I had described existed, none were in stock.
Demoralized (since I need to have NET access anywhere) I went back to Best Buy who, after seeing my ancient (but still perfectly good working) Sierra Wireless PCMCIA card for connecting to the Net via EVDO, told me that all the new cards were USB based and so it was not a problem. I had had the PCMCIA card since Verizon launched their EV-DO network and while I had opportunities for upgrades didn’t really feel the need to upgrade the card since the current cards didn’t really enhance the wireless surfing experience. Now I needed to upgrade. There was a problem with getting the card through Best Buy so I went around the corner to a Verizon Wireless center and got the new Sierra AirCard with USB connection from them. Results? The Presario with this card gobbles down data much much faster than the Sony Vaio did with the previous card.
The look and feel is quite good and seems very solidly designed. Minimal design with a lot of potential. Highly recommended if you don’t need the biggest or baddest machine on the planet but want a great, sensible laptop to perform about 99% of the computing chores you think you need to do.
Highly recommended.

I have a problem too with my compaq presario c700. WIFI is not working if you replace vista with xp. My job application rpograms won’t work. Now, my LAN is no longer detectable even if I restored my laptop to factory settings. I just bought it last January 2008.
March 4th, 2008 at 2:54 am
Well, after reading some comments in here, it help me a lot especially answering some question that i have in mind. Regarding the type jumping problem, finally i know how to solve it. After buying this laptop for almost two weeks, the only problem right now is the loudest of the dvd drive, i think it is just the same with every other brand. the typing problem is gone since i know how to disable the touch mouse thing.
to sum up, it is very good if u are just looking to have laptop for watching movies or type your work. no need to buy such expensive one if u wont be using the full capacity of it.

I, too, have the heat problem, the computer has vista and 1 gb ram. had mouse problem whilst typing, turned sensitivity down, problem no more. I despise using windows vista on it, its slow and choppy. It overheats and crashes often, even with a cooling pad (or cooler, whatever). im happy with the display quality, just wish that windows was less resource hungry so it would run faster. I am a mac user of some years, and sprang for affordable (tight budget) portability. I’ve had problems with computers before, but vista takes problems to the Ultimate (pun intended). Overall, good computer for the money. You literally pay for what you get. (which would be a windows vista license).

I bought my C714NR(c700) for $405.00 from best buy proir to leaving for Irag in october of ‘07. it replaced my presario 1200 series-a virtual dinosaur. I own two dells; a dimension 4400 and a dimension 512. Also an e-machines currently on the way out. I was searching for that balance of value and performance. I think the 700 fits the bill well. The RAM should definately be upgraded if you opt for vista premium, as it takes a ridiculously long time to start up and even shut down. I’ve never heard my fan, but the DVD drive is a bit loud. I’ve found thid to be normal and has’nt caused me any problems after six months of daily use in the desert. HP Quickplay will not play some burned movis but Media Player plays everything; i recommed that as the default. The touch pad is hyper-sensitive when typing and will pick up a charge and move your cursor even if you are’nt typing, but you can easily turn it off by push button. It has great screen resolution, though the briteview screen will kill your battery twice as fast. Three usb ports are really handy; also the s-video out and video monitor out. The adapter is dual volted for both 110-220(soldiers!). No problem with overheating; it’s 120 degrees out here; just keep it well vented. The fit and finish are solid, the only thing i’ve lost is the rubber foot on the bottom from moving it around so much. Also pushbutton wireless and both LAN and dialup ports make me not worry about where to plug in at. Overall really sound buy. No regrets. Just wish i had sprung for an on-board webcam.
Note: Vista is so much easier to navigat than MAC OS Tiger!(MACbook)

I got one of these back in August when the motherboard fried on my other laptop. I was given a 30 day money back deal and figured that I’d use it while the other one was being fixed and then get my money back. That isn’t how it worked. I now have 2 laptops and the Presario is my favourite of them. I use it even more than my desktop when I’m at home.
I’ve had no problems or issues at all. No overheating, no fan noise, no crashing….nothing. The speed is great and videos and music flow beautifully. I love this machine and would recommend it to anyone. Wait a minute…I HAVE recommended it to everyone I know!

I purchased presario C700 on march 5th. mine is working properly and have some bottom heating problem after a long hours… 2GB RAM is better for vista, so i dont have any stuck problem and automatic shutting down.. Its very cheap and cute one comparing with other laptops.. if u want to avoid typing problems just disable touch pad and work.. BEST REGARDS… SUMESH MATHUR

i just purchased the presario c700 around two weeks ago, I upgraded the ram to 1GB which seems to be alright at this stage, but will probably added another GB further down the line. It seems everybody is experiencing the same problem with the overheating underneath laptop ann.d the power adapter hopefully it wont be a problem later on. The cd-rom seems to be unstable at times, making loud noise and unable to read some the backup files thart i created thats is probably my biggest concern. However for the price that i am purchased for i would recommended to people who are looking to purchase entry level laptop this model isnt a bad choice.

I purchased compaq on april19 so far i have no problems. The cheapest high performance laptop mine is c733tu(C700 family) it has built in webcam 1gb winwos vista. the negative side of this is it gets hot under the laptop so i purcheased a cooling pad so the problem is solved. btw im from philippines

Love my c700! The only thing that bugs me is the fact that the cursor jumps all over the place sometimes when i type. I guess the touchpad is that sensitive!
Does anyone know what the wireless orange button does?
Thanks!

I have had the c700 since black friday and never had a problem until yestrday. My computer froze and I hit the power button and now when I turn it on, I get a white screen with what looks like purple bruises on it. Does anyone know a fix for this? HELP!!
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I had gotten the c700 from bestbuy several days ago. I don’t know why but it came with 3gigs of ram and a fair amount of storage. EVERYTHING is fine but the only thing that I dont like is that the left side right beside the mouse pad gets warm and there is no button that dell has. I think it came with 250 gigs of storage. It’s an okay computer.

I’m having problem with its XP driver, up to now i can’t find a driver for XP. Can someone help me with this. Thank You in advance.

i have the c700 and it works great my children like to watch dvds on it and have a lot of fun with the web cam no problems with it got it for free so cant complain
June 17th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
i bought mine in november and have had endless problems. i bought it because my last laptop was stolen and i was on a budget.
i upgraded to 1 gig of ram, since thats what i need on my last laptop to run photoshop properly. i also upgraded to the 120gig hard drive.
the only program i’ve installed is photoshop. and the only thing i store on my computer are the current photos i’m working on (currently my photos take up 40 gigs), and somehow my hard drive is almost full, wtf?
this computer is also so slow i can barely edit my photos….it takes me a few hours to finish one photo opposed to the 30 minutes i’d take on my last laptop (an HP as well). this seems to be because vista is taking up all my memory. i changed the appearance, so everything looks like windows 95, and that helped a little.
but the biggest issue: the screen
a few months after getting the laptop a black splotch appeared in the top corner….and what looks like a crack, but doesn’t seem to be (there doesn’t seem to be any damage to the surface of the screen). the black splotch went away after a few weeks, now 2 months later, i have a diagonal line running across the screen with black surrounding it….its completely useless for photo editing now.
June 21st, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I bought it from ebay. Installed 1 GB exta RAM which is must for Vista (1.5 gb totl). Good
performance . Low noise, runs cool
2 bad things:
1. Very bad location of touch pad (bad design). ie Your palm will rest on touch pad while typing which makes typing tiresome and clumsy. (it should have been placed little left )
2. Low volume
June 23rd, 2008 at 3:02 pm
I brought my notebook last 2 weeks ago and he is doing fine except the screen when there is some movement occurs you will be dizzy because of the pixels that are moving together with small lines. But for me if the performance is good but not that much satisfactory to expert user.I bought my loptop in saudi arabia for SR.2700
June 26th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I’ve had my C700 for 3 days. Two noticeable issues:
1) The touchpad is hyper-sensitive, issuing clicks if you just look at it. Fortunately I always use the buttons, so I disabled “clicking” on the touchpad itself. It still occasionally just “jumps around”.
2) I installed Ubuntu Linux. The WIFI does not work, and there does not yet seem to be support for the Atheros 242X WIFI device. I expect this is just a matter of time. “Wired” networking does work, so at least you can get software updates.
June 27th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
My C700 is around three weeks old. One of the very first issues I had was the jumping cursor and I figured that’s why HP put that on/off switch on the touch pad. But, it is a bit tedious to be pressing that button every now and then. To avoid the touchpad while typing, I lift the heels of my palm. Another solution I found is to rest the heels of my palm away from the touchpad with my hands a bit diagonal. Works fine for me.
With the DVD drive, I experienced that scraping sound once or twice but most of the time, it works and sounds normal.
Overheating was not a real problem until two days ago when my unit shut down in the middle of something I was doing and I noticed that the lefthand bottom was very hot. I researched and found this:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c01007591&dlc=en&product=3559331
It says in the article that the fan running constantly is a sign of efficient operation. The sound doesn’t really bother me except when I start the laptop and hear the fan sound like a jet engine in reverse thrust. I had a Prestigio laptop before and I can say that it was far more quiet than the C700. Although this is not a big issue for me.
The article doesn’t give much of a solution in my opinion, though.
The more pressing concern for me is overheating. I live in a tropical country so heat really becomes an issue when I am in a location without air-conditioning
I do hope HP can provide other alternative solutions. This is such a great laptop.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
I’ve been useing my c700 for half a year, and it keeps crapping out on me.I cant get my toolbar to work and now all i have for my account is my screensaver.
OVERALL:IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD LAPTOP,COMPAQ PRESPARIO C700 IS NOT FOR YOU!I REPEAT IN DIFFERENT WORDS!THE C700 IS CRAP!!!
July 9th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
I just purchased a C700. I needed a laptop in a pinch and so far it has done the job.
I installed 2 ddm2 PNY memory sticks of 1gb each into my old Toshiba Satellite. The computer crashed constantly, fading to death via the BSOD .
Does anyone have an idea what caused that to crash my old laptop ? I would like to install one of them (or both) into my C700, but maybe I should leave well enough alone .
July 9th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
I love my laptop ( well not literally ) i did have a problem with the jumping cursor like somebody else on this page did , but then worked out the button on the touch pad had to be set to off !( red from blue) this worked lovely and stopped me from chucking out the window in a big manly strop!!
I have no issues at all now and live in england where we never have any sun and its usaually pissing down with rain , so no overheating problems there, infact i like to use my laptop as a means to keeping warm in winter when heating is exspensive !! lol
July 21st, 2008 at 8:15 am
wow i like the sound of this laptop. Im gonna get it! …………… im not bothered about the sound and heat………..
for all those people that have problems with heat its because u dont put it on soft material!!!!!
the material insulates heat!!!!!!!
if still hot get a COOLER FAN for 100 hong kong dollars
A cooler fan is a small very light stand to put laptop on to make bottom of laptop cooler ive got one it is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery reliable!!! keeps cool!!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:33 am
I have owned my C700 for about 2 months now and I really haven’t had any major issues with it. I have had to put my hand in front of the fan to see if it was on, I could never really hear mine. I havent been able to fill the 221 GB hard disk space. Wire placement could have been a little more “user friendly” as they do get in my way a bit. Webcam points a bit high for my taste. All in all this laptop gets an A on my list.

my C700 also has some of the problems mentioned here. It gets very hot!! and it freezes when that happens. Very annoying. Should we all get together and sue HP for making such a problematic laptop?

The charger wont stay in. If you touch it the slightest bit it falls out. I litterally opened it brand new from the box yesterday. Anyone else have this problem? Or do you think its just mine?

Hi! I bought my Compaq P C700 last month here in Thailand for 16,500 Baht. This morning I decided to change the operating system from windows vista to windows XP and upgrade RAM to 1.5 Gig. I really hope it will work better after the upgrade. My computer is still at the shop now so I can’t yet see the difference.
It’s really cheap but it is somewhat slow for windows vista. Vista is a great processor. But I feel sorry because It’s not good with this kind of laptop. What I do is to take a nap when opening any program and wait until it runs.
The only thing which bothers me is the speed. I just hope I can see a difference when I get my laptop tomorrow after upgrading.

I’ve really been frustrated with my Compaq C700 laptop touchpad sensitivity when typing. The following post was the answer to my prayers!!!! His/her suggestion did the trick. Thanks!

To get around the problem of the cursor moving around when typing go to your mouse properties. In the ‘Tapping’ tab select ‘Tab off when typing’. This should sort that out for you… annoyed me till I found this!

Just got the Compaq C700, its a nice machine. The only problem is the noise when i insert a cd. Mine doesnt heat up, another problem i got is it has no middle button! No big deal though, its jus a perfect macchine.

the fan going on/off only happens if you run windows; i’m currently running fedora and it does not make that sound at all anymore.
@ no middle button: If you hit both of the buttons at the same time it acts as a middle button.
I see absolutely no problems with this computer.

I’m from the Philippines. I bought my C791TU a couple of weeks ago and it has been working perfectly fine. No fan noise either. Great laptop for such a low price.

left hand side had rest corner gets little heated up when I’m not in AC or ceiling fan running on top. I guess its the hard disk thats spins on a heavy loaded server / application running on my fedora core 8. Soon I put the room ceiling fan on, no heat at all. laptop cooling fan runs quite and okay.

well i’ve bought my laptop about 2 weeks ago….it has been working very fine. it really never overheats unless i put it on a soft surface e.g my bed. i really like the windows vista.. maybe because i got fed up with my windows xp on my desktop. i have minor problems with the laptop though, when it is first turned on, the screen blanks out for a second (it never really blanks out after that). i hate the fact that windows vista uses a lot of memory. i think that the presario c 700 is amaizing, the fact that i bought it for only US$500.00 IN South America.
is it a requirement that this laptop should be connected to earth ground?????????????

Mine is so SLOW It has more RAM then my old one and that is 20 times faster! Also, I take my laptop to school everyday, and right when I’m doing something really important I get the blue screen (something I’m yet to see on my old one) and then it takes ages to re-start. Whenever I type something It take a while to appear and opening icons can drive one insane.
But other than that it is really good!
I’m thinking of downgrading to XP pro. Or getting some more ram, whichever is cheaper. I bought mine for $710(au) including 3 years Warentee($110) and there is the $150 cashback. So Without Warentee and stuff it only cost me $450 au which is really good.
Mine doesn’t really overheat much (which is great for just slipping into my bag) but the dvd drive opens at random times. Which can get SO annoying. the CPU rests on 99% which is really unlike my old one which normally sat on 6%. I don’t think I can upgrade that…

I’ve had mine since Nov…..and i gotta say i’m pretty much pleased with it….i would say i’m gettin more than i paid for out of it….the only two problems i’ve had with it is sometimes, well actually frequently, it would freeze up with use of the touchpad(easy fix with a USB mouse) and and it wouldn’t type at the same speed i was typin..which gets aggravating after a while when i have to wait after i finished typing to see wut i actually typed..other than that..awesome unit

I also have the C700. i think it works well with more memory as you said, and it does get hot underneath. but the fan in mine dosent make a loud noise every 5 minutes, only on occasions, like when i turn it on. it dosent go off all the time. but i think it is a good computer, especially for the price. i also find that a lot of progams work properly and good on it.

I have read the following comment from Mark:
“The touchpad is hyper-sensitive, issuing clicks if you just look at it. Fortunately I always use the buttons, so I disabled “clicking” on the touchpad itself. It still occasionally just “jumps around”.”
I can’t find how to disable the “clicking” on the touchpad itself. It drives me mad because I continously click on things when what I want is just to move the mouse pointer. The OS is windows VISTA. The touchpad driver is from Alps Electric Co., version 7.200.202.9 from 2007-07-04.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

Have a presario c700 since may of 08, we bought for my daughter for her birthday. The problem we are having recently is if we move the screen too quickly the computer screens shuts off although the computer itself keeps working. Anyone having this problem? We have to turn the machine off and then wait 1/2 hour before we can turn it on again.

I had the same problem as some others that the cursor would jump randomly and it is frustrating when you are trying to get some work done. I then changed the cursor button from blue to red and attached an external mouse and the keyboard is working just fine.

I need to install Windows XP pro to my c700 and have it runs parallel with Vista. Much appreciate if someone can give me a hint.

Yes i have had mine for about 4 months and 4 days now and i have had some issues with it. for the first 3.5 months it was running fine. now for the last 2 to 3 weeks it has been getting progressivly worse while using it. It keeps overheating on me. I have resorted to putting it onto a table and putting it ontop of 4 pop cans with a dish of ice on the lower left hand corner so that i can run things like movies or download music even do school work at times. All this has started in the last couple of weeks i haven’t changed anything or really downloaded any programs since it has begun happening the only difference is that i have movied it from my lap to a book to a table to pop cans if anyone has any advice on how to keep it cooler it would be much appreciatedto know about or if anyone knows of anything that the company may have done a recall on to get it fixed. There is also my internet explorer when ever i close it out it says the program has stopped running and wants meto eeither close it out or restart it. otherwise i don’t seem to have any problems with my computer. Itseems to be well worth the money or would be if it wouldn’t over heat.

I hate the touchpad. Also, the wireless card in my Compaq Presario C700 was faulty, but I never bothered to send it away to be fixed.
